About Us
Khulula Animal Welfare Society (KHAWS) is a pro-quality of life society. Khulula means "to set free" and whether that might be to a loving family, from cruelty or from suffering, we will be alongside the animals in our care every step of the way.
We are based in Evander, in the Mpumulanga province, South Africa.
Our objectives include, but are not limited to:
Prevention of cruelty towards all animals through education, outreaches, sterilisation, vaccination drives and trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs.
Providing a safe environment for surrendered, stray and injured animals at our kennels.
Rehoming of animals in our care to suitable and dedicated homes following a diligent adoption process.
We started building KHAWS from the bottom up in June 2024, and renovations of our premises have been completed to allow operation at 50% capacity. We have 20 smaller dog kennels that requires a full renovation. This has been put on hold until the required funds can be raised and community support increases.

What we do

We do
Take in:
- Surrendered
- Stray
- and Injured (found) animals
Rehome animals adhering to a strick adoption process
We do not:
- Pick up animals
- Search for lost animals
- Address cruelties
- Have emergency hours services
- Assist the public with veterinary care or euthanising of private animals.
